About Me

My name is Maria Blevins – I am currently an Associate Professor of communication at Utah Valley University. My research focuses on conflict and organizational and environmental communication. Through research, I hopes to gain knowledge that will facilitate changes in organizations and institutions to support a more sustainable mode of functioning. Before I was an academic, I was a raft guide. From 2001-2012 I worked on rivers as a guide or river ranger in West Virginia, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. My experience as a scholar of organizational communication and as a raft guide puts me in the unique position to explore sexual harassment in the whitewater industry. I love outdoor activities, reading, playing guitar, and thinking about organizational structure and systems. (bio text here, figure out font)

A-DASH Collaborative

I have recently joined with a team of experienced consultants and river professionals, to create the A-DASH (Anti-Discrimination and Sexual Harassment) Collaborative.  This is a group of trainers, guides, agency members, rafting company owners and managers, and academics who provide consultation and training for outfitters and agencies as well as support for individuals. Our goal is to inspire and support you as you work to eliminate discrimination and harassment through policy assessment, training and cultural change. Your inquiries are confidential, valued and respected and will be addressed without shame or blame for the person seeking consultation or support.
